Have you ever wondered how certain things came to be? Observe the following in Hebrews 11:39-40 (KJV):
“39And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: 40God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.”
The beginning of Hebrews 11 gives the definition of faith. In fact, faith is the basis of what we presuppose about God and about His Word. We see examples in the Bible of those who chose to believe God and trust Him with their lives. These people did some out-of-the-ordinary things and faced some terrible consequences simply for what they believed.
Read the eleventh chapter of Hebrews in its entirety and you will see some of the horrendous trials these heroes of faith endured. Knowing what they would face, they still decided to stand firm. The interesting thing is that they all died without receiving the earthly benefits of what they lived for. What a testament of loyalty!
As I reflect on this passage of scripture, I cannot help but think about friends and family of mine, and yours, who are now on foreign soil risking their lives. Some have even given their lives in efforts to secure a better future for others. My heart goes out to all who serve, to their families, and to their friends.
As we prepare for the festivities of the upcoming seasons, let us all keep ever before us the awareness of the sacrifices made for us (past and present). Many people around us are facing difficult times. The people you encounter on a daily basis need your kindness and consideration now more than ever. Be willing to do the neighborly thing always.
The greatest sacrifice I know of is the ultimate one Jesus Christ made for our sins (see John 3:16; Romans 10:8-10). Christ wants us to believe Him, love Him, and serve Him. While we are serving God, opportunities to be a blessing will frequently arise. Ask Him for guidance in how to make a difference in the lives of others
Take a moment now to reflect on how blessed you are….
O.K., I know it will take more than a moment….
While you are reflecting, please do not forget to thank and praise God for His divine providence, and remember that there is a hero of faith in you!
